The useful properties of the trumpet clam are highly valued in medicine and cooking. Before using the gastropod, it is necessary to study its features and chemical composition.
What it looks like and where it is found
The sea trumpeter is a gastropod predatory mollusk from the trumpeter family of the same name. It has an elongated and expanded shell with axial thickenings and spiral keels or without them. The mollusk is light or dark brown on the outside, with a horny cap and smooth inner lip; it has no teeth.
The sea clam lives in temperate seas of the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere, as well as in tropical waters. Lives off the coast at the bottom. Is the object of fishing in England, Scotland, the Far East, and Sakhalin in Russia, which is popular in Japan. Fishing clam begins in October and ends in February.
Puffer feeds on small fish, snails and worms. Predator saliva has paralyzing properties, so it eats its prey while still alive. Without difficulty, breaks open the shells of bivalve mollusks, especially actively hunting mussels, and can destroy them in a short time entire colonies. Along with this is a scavenger.
Spawning sea mollusk in the summer. Females lay special capsules on underwater rocks and other objects. Although each pouch may contain several hundred eggs, only about five trumpets survive in the end. At first, they feed on the remains of unhatched congeners and then emerge from the capsule to the outside with a small shell already formed.
Warning. The sea trumpeter is a rather ancient mollusk. It first appeared on Earth in the early Paleogene, and the maximum flowering of the population came in the Quaternary period.
The benefits and harms of the clam are determined by its chemical composition. The meat of the clam contains:
- vitamins B1, B2, B5, and B9;
- ascorbic acid;
- sodium, iron, and calcium;
- vitamin B12;
- potassium and phosphorus;
- selenium and zinc;
- vitamins K and PP;
- manganese, copper, and magnesium.
The clam has a soft fillet and a pleasant taste and aroma, most associated with crawfish. Its structure is more delicate than that of octopus and squid.
The caloric value of the trumpeter
The clam has a very low energy value and is well suited for dietary meals. In 100 g of its meat, there are only 24 calories. About 17 g are occupied by proteins, and the share of fats and carbohydrates is 0.4 and 2.8 g respectively.
How is the trumpet useful?
Due to its rich chemical composition, the sea trout has numerous useful properties. When the shellfish is used properly:
- saturates the body with easily digestible protein;
- Lowers blood cholesterol and improves the condition of blood vessels;
- beneficial effect on cell membranes and rejuvenates the body;
- improves blood clotting;

- Has a strengthening effect on bones and joints.
The low-calorie clam can be used in dietary diets. The clam does not provoke weight gain, but cleanses the intestines of toxins and helps to lose weight while maintaining healthy muscle mass.
